Random Observations (in America)

This blog almost is as much about culture as it is about photography. As such, I felt this was a great little post to share with you – my well traveled reader. I have a good friend that lives in India who is, at the moment, back visiting friends in the United States. Yesterday he posted [...]
Guest Post: Wedding Clothes
When Matt asked me to write a guest post on his blog, I think he said I could write about anything I wanted provided I don’t mention anything about my favorite baseball team, the Chicago Cubs. Oops. Related to Matt’s recent posts about culture, I’ll just share a story of a cultural learning experience I’ve [...]

by Matt Brandon Photo Trekker AW II (As with any blog entry, if you want to see larger versions of these images, just click on them.) Just about a month back Lowepro sent me the Photo Trekker AW II. My first impressions were “Wow, its big!” It is big, about the size of what we [...]
Goodbye Kitty and Goodnight or O! Ye of Little Faith.

My daughter has been bugging me ever since we left Kashmir, and had to give away our dog ((Her name was Lady and she was a German Shepherd.)), to get another pet. I told her that once we got settled in to Penang we would talk about it. How is that for parental non-committal? Of course, she has not let me forget the “we will talk about it” part. We have been talking about it. I have talked about a monitor lizard, an iguana, she keeps talking about a dog or a cat or even a sugar glider of all things. So we settled, finally, on a kitten a friend found. I will admit it was cute. Did you catch that, “was”?
Steve McCurry Sharp

One of the fun and quite frankly, thrilling things that digital imaging has been able to deliver that film never did, is the ability to give you truly razor sharp images. Yeah, we had sharp images in the film days, but not like what we can get now. With the digital cameras ability to grab [...]
Vitale Video

If there is one thing I have learned over the past few years of shooting images and visiting with some world class photographers, it’s most of the very talented photographers are nice, really nice people. One of the more pleasant photographers to come down the pike in a long while is Ami Vitale. You’ve seen [...]
Old Delhi Take Two

Off to India.

I leave today in just a few hours for India. I will be gone around two weeks. Posting will be sparse at best. My guess is I will be able to post over the next few days, but once we leave for Leh the bandwidth will be such that it will make posting images difficult. [...]

Back from Bali.

Back from Bali. Only two things to say about Bali. One, it was cool. I don’t mean a really neat place to shoot and a fun place to hang out, it was that, but it was physically cool. I think the average temp was somewhere in the 75º f, it was sweet! Second, I was [...]
In The News

I am sorry it has been so long in posting. I have been up to my gills in setting up house, getting insurance and finding transportation. I should have a phone line with in 7 days with significant internet speed, or so they tell me. It had better be for price I am paying. I [...]

Front Back Those were the words in the subject line of the email I received today from my agent in India. Amazing as it seems, if you have been following the saga of “Kashmir, The Mystery”, it seems the day has arrived. The book is out! The email went on to say: “The book is [...]

Catch Up Monday

I want to apologize for the lack of movement on this blog this past two weeks. Yikes! Has it been that long? Some of it is busyness, as I am frantically trying to get ready to leave for Sumatra. Some of it is other work. Some of it is just writer’s block. First off, I [...]

A Leopard in My Nightmares

I just upgraded our family’s two Macs to the Leopard OS. It started out smooth enough with my wife’s little 12″ G4. No problem, the upgrade went without a catch, slow but without any issues. My massive 17″ MacBook Pro on the other hand was/is a nightmare. A word of advice that I know you [...]
Great Story… Just not factual.

You hear it all the time, all the time. People reading an article resulting from a recent interview they did and are amazed that the information they gave during the interview is so different from what they see in print. This past week I was interviewed by the Temple Daily Telegram. Nice lady. The story came [...]
